The Lakers are in trouble

On this website last Monday, May 31, I wrote, “The Lakers badly need to win the first two games (of the NBA Finals) at home. Going to Boston tied 1-1 or down 0-2 could be a major problem since the Celtics will host games 3, 4 and 5, if necessary.”

Guess what, folks? The Lakers are in trouble.

Boston will be a three-point choice in Game 3 on Tuesday night which is normal when allowing for home court advantage. The Celtics are 31 and 19 on their home floor in all games this season, but 32 and 19 on the road.

2010 NBA Playoffs:

LAKERS CELTICS
HOME 9-1 HOME 7-2
ROAD 4-4 ROAD 6-4
13-5 13-6

Boston has won four of its last five playoff games at home. If the Celtics win two of three at home this week, the Lakers will have to be victorious in Games 6 and 7 at home.

ODDITY:

The Lakers have scored 111 points in five of their postseason contests and are 5 & 0.

Give the Celtics credit for their success Sunday night at Staples Center. Having blown a 14-point lead, they trailed 90-87 with nearly 5 1/2 minutes to go, then outscored the Lakers, 16 to 4 down the stretch. Los Angeles went over four minutes without scoring in one span, and made one of its last nine shots.

KEY DECISION:

Boston was leading, 93-90 when the ball was knocked out of bounds. TV replays indicated it should be the Lakers’ ball. Instead the officials gave it to the Celtics and Rajon Rondo sank a 20-foot jumper with no one guarding him. Five-point lead. Game over. Rondo scored ten points in the final six minutes and made several clutch defensive plays.

SENSATIONAL SHOOTING:

Ray Allen of Boston sank his first SEVEN three-point attempts, had 27 points at intermission, and made an eighth in the second half to set an NBA Finals record.

Kobe Bryant cannot sit on the bench 14 minutes as he did in Game 2 if the Lakers want to repeat as champs. Didn’t Phil Jackson leave him there a long time to start the second quarter and that’s when the Celtics jumped so far ahead?

Game 4 will be played Thursday and Game 5 Sunday.
