"Improving and Empowering the
Down Syndrome Community"
In 1996 Rex and Jennifer Hudler had a beautiful son named Cade Allan who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Children with this condition are challenged to certain levels both physically and mentally. But, the Hudlers quickly realized that Cade was a gift and has a special purpose in life.

Eleven years ago, the Hudlers formed an organization----Team Up for Down Syndrome----and Rex, a former major league baseball player and now an Angels announcer, emphasizes the "Up" in the name. In fact, he calls the condition his son was born with "Up Syndrome." Actually, Down Syndrome is a chromosomal disorder named for Dr. John Down, the British doctor who described the condition in 1866. Rex insists it's just more positive to be "up," and the children bearing the name are usually happy, upbeat human beings.

Jennifer and Rex are the devoted parents of four children and are actively involved in community outreaches------such as Challenger Baseball-----and volunteer to counsel or help families with special needs children. Jennifer, a talented singer, even uses her music to share the good news.
Team Up for Down Syndrome has an annual All-Star party to raise funds for improving the lives of people with Down Syndrome. This major event takes place on the big league baseball All-Star game day at Angel Stadium in Anaheim every July. It successfully raises enough money to contribute to over 30 organizations helping these special people. Guests watch the All-Star game on the stadium scoreboard, take part in silent and live auctions, are served good food, and at the conclusion of the evening are treated to a fireworks show in the stadium.
Other events take place throughout the year. All proceeds benefit housing, health, education, job training, recreation and family counseling.

Examples of how individuals are impacted were shared. One young man learned to do laundry and had built up a small business. Team Up for Down Syndrome awarded him with a commercial washer and dryer. Another young adult wanted to live independently, and Team Up helped her with the down payment on a house. A scholarship was given to a student at Chapman University majoring in special education.
"Team Up for Down Syndrome" is an organization dedicated to strengthening and empowering those with Down Syndrome to help them and their families reach their full potential. And, in doing this they are helping others to see the positive contributions these special individuals make to society.
Real Sports Heroes salutes the Hudler family, their Team Up team, the Angels baseball organization and all the sponsors and friends. These amazing people are working to help children and young people achieve their dreams. They are the real All-Stars.
