Wade’s father, O. A. “Bum” Phillips, was the head coach of the Houston Oilers between 1975 and 1980, and the head coach of the New Orleans Saints from 1981 to 1985. “Bum” was known for wearing a cowboy hat on the sidelines except when his teams played in domed stadiums.
