“Bum” Phillips


Wade’s father, O. A. “Bum” Phillips, was the head coach of the Houston Oilers between 1975 and 1980, and the head coach of the New Orleans Saints from 1981 to 1985. “Bum” was known for wearing a cowboy hat on the sidelines except when his teams played in domed stadiums. He said his mother taught him not to wear a hat indoors. We wish early birthday greetings to “Bum” who will be 85 next month and is living on his horse ranch in Goliad, Texas. Read the full story
