Dear Linda:
I was pleased to see a short history of my father’s WWII experience and his love of baseball. Thank you for recognizing him. I live in Palmyra, New Jersey, near Philadelphia. I did a google search for my dad and your article came up. I have a website, Daughters of D-Day at www.daughtersofd-day.com where I have information about my dad’s war and postwar experiences. Keep up the interesting work about the sports figures. I am a big Phillies fan—-and my dad actually tried out with the Phillies and the Athletics after the war. He had been playing semi-pro ball in Philly and was scouted by them and also the Reds. Thanks again.
Best,
Carol Schultz Vento
Palmyra, New Jersey
What a thrill to receive your message, Carol ! Your dad and millions like him are true heroes. We love your website because it carries on the legacy of all these brave Americans who were willing to make sacrifices for their country. Congratulations on what you are doing.
On our realsportsheroes.com website, you can read about “Dutch” Schultz and major league baseball players who served this nation in wartime and curtailed their playing careers. Go to Saluting Teamwork where you will find three stories based on Todd Anton’s book, “No Greater Love…..Life Stories from the Men Who Saved Baseball.”

Hello, Ross,
What do you think of the B-C-S in college football? Would you like to see any changes?
Ted Garrett
Austin, Texas
Yes, I would, Ted. I would like to see it replaced by an eight-team playoff. If the B-C-S is going to continue to be used, I like a suggestion made by Bob Stoops. Strength of schedule should be returned to the formula. Bob feels that encourages better games early, and I think he is right.

Ross,
Let me say that it was a pleasure listening to you for the years that you covered the Dodgers. You are truly missed. We’d love nothing more than to have you back calling Dodger baseball. Thanks and happy holidays.

It means a lot to me, Derek, to hear from fans like you. I appreciate your comments.

Dear Linda and Ross,
Both of you write with such accuracy and feeling. It was a pleasure to browse through all of the past articles. I really enjoyed it. Some of those pieces were just so heart warming.

Ross,
You were one of my favorite people when you were with the Dodgers, always so cordial when I wrote to you personally and talked to you on the air.
You have a terrific site—-and I love your mission statement.
I enjoy the updates and it is definitely bookmarked on my computer. Best wishes and thanks for great memories. Although it makes me sick to recall my favorite call of yours was when Reggie Jackson hit his third home run in that 1977 World Series game.
